In Consent of the Networked, Internet policy specialist Rebecca MacKinnon enters the debate on the political impact of the Internet and addresses the question of how technology should be structured and governed to support the rights of Internet users. MacKinnon advocates for users to take ownership of our digital future, and offers a framework to understand the power dynamics amongst governments, cor­porations and citizens in cyberspace.

Rebecca MacKinnon is Co-founder of Global Voices Online and a Fellow at the New America Foundation. MacKinnon is frequently interviewed by major media, including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Financial Times, National Public Radio, BBC, and other news outlets. She serves on the boards of directors of the Committee to Protect Journalists and the Global Network Ini­tiative. MacKinnon worked as a journalist for CNN in Beijing for nine years. She was a research fellow at Harvard’s Berkman Center for Internet and Society from 2004-06 and taught on­line journalism at the University of Hong Kong’s Journalism and Media Studies Centre in 2007-08.
