Focusing on identity in prehistory, Dr. Torres will present a bioarcheological view of life in northern Chile that considers both large scale patterns of human movement, inequality, and interaction and the details of individual lives in this harsh desert environment. Exploring populations on the coast and interior, we will look at how mobility, violence, and body modifications reflect community and personhood, revealing the ways in which a detailed read of bodies and mortuary practices can shape our understanding of these past lives.
