In this moderated conversation, feminist ethnographers and writers Moaveni and Silber will discuss the gendered root causes of political violence and how people have come to count and account for this violence. They will talk about how they understand the continuities between everyday violence and wartime violence, and about the complexity of the categories “victim” and “perpetrator.” They will also consider the various ways communities have engaged in peace or rebuilding processes, thinking through the new vulnerabilities that sometimes emerge in the wake of reconciliation. Finally, they will discuss the problems of representation and audience when writing about violence.
