Anna Luurtsema is an archaeologist and PhD student in Anthropology interested in the production of heritage, place, and identity. Using a combination of archaeological and ethnographic methods, her dissertation research examines how certain heritage narratives become privileged and naturalized through festivals, monuments, and collective memory in Holland, Michigan. Her work is grounded in close collaboration with Holland community members, museums, and educators, with the goal of making archaeology accessible, inclusive, and relevant to the public.
