Research Interests
My work is focused on heritage preservation in Quintana Roo, Mexico, specifically focused on the history of the Caste War of Yucatan or the Maya Social War, a Maya rebellion of the 19th century. I am studying the built heritage of the town to understand larger questions of identity, memory, and place, and how these concepts have changed over time. Other research interests: Heritage preservation, conservation of archaeological sites, community-based research and development, indigenous rights, social sustainability, identity, contested histories, memorialization.
