"Mariana is a PhD candidate in cultural anthropology whose research focuses on state-citizen relations and the politics of national belonging. Her dissertation project examines the dynamics of racial stratification and nationalism in the former USSR through the lens of Central Asian migration to and from Russia. Her work draws on long-term ethnographic research in Russia and Tajikistan and employs postsocialist, postcolonial, feminist, and critical urban approaches."
